I must’ve been living under a rock because I had no idea this yarn was coming out until I saw people talking about it on Instagram. Was there an announcement I missed? I went from never hearing about this yarn to hearing everyone on my FYP talking about it. So when I had to swing by Joann to get some more Poly-Fil, I decided to pick up a few skeins and check it out.

For those who are in the dark like I was about Big Twist Posh, it is a bulky 5 weight polyester plush yarn. It comes in 200g/7oz/233yd skeins that retail for $9.99 USD. My Joann had them on sale for $6.99, and with a curbside pick up coupon I was able to get my yarn for $5.99/skein. Posh seems most similar to Premier Parfait Chunky, which retails for $4.99 on Premier’s website for a 100g/3.5oz/130yd skein.

My initial first impressions (which I shared on TikTok) were that the yarn is super soft and a very similar gauge to Parfait Chunky. I find Parfait Chunky to be more velvety feeling, and Posh is closer in texture to a blanket yarn (like Premier Basix Chenille, Bernat Blanket, etc). It’s squishy and soft, and I had fun squeezing the skeins when I unboxed them.

I decided to make something with the Posh yarn to test it out, and settled on Goosetav the Goose (The tutorial is available on my YouTube and the PDF pattern is available in my shop). To start, I was able to make and tighten my magic circle with no breakage or issues. The yarn was soft and easy to work with. There was a bit of fluff fraying when I cut the yarn, which is to be expected with chenille yarns, but nothing substantial. I was able to sew parts together with ease, and only had the fiber split on me once, when I was trying to pull the yarn out of my sewing needle.

Overall, I found the yarn really pleasant to work with. The color options are a bit limited right now, so I’m hoping they expand on the colorway in the near future. They also have some neon/bright colors, which I didn’t see it until after I picked up my order. Now I have something to look forward to trying on my next trip to Joann! If you’re looking for a chunky weight plush yarn alternative for your amigurumi, I think it is a worthwhile buy.
